Another copper pipe theft recently took place at 2181 Wyandotte. The house is for sale, and is vacant. I asked our Ward 3 Police Officer, Kevin Fischer about it and here is his response:

2181 Wyandotte is a vacant home which has been for sale for a few weeks.  On 01-10-10, the realtor for the house noticed that there were pry marks on the rear door and the copper had been taken out.  The Realtor did not call the police until 01-12-10.  The last time anybody knows for sure that the copper was intact was on 12-28-09.  So we have a two week window of when the theft took place.  There are no suspects.  Stay vigilant.

So, if you notice any suspicious activity near a home that is vacant or for sale, please call the police. If you live near a vacant home that is for sale, it might be helpful to have the name of the Realtor - the Realtor will want to know what's going on, or if the property needs any maintenance or attention.

A majority of these copper pipe thefts are taking place during the day and usually involve a van or truck. The perps usually case the place before the theft.

A vacant property with no plumbing is harder to sell and will eventually affect everyone's property value.
